Study Day on Friday 21 June - 2024

 Dear parent/guardian or carer,

This week we will be having a Study Day on Friday 21 June.

This arrangement is due to an Open Day event planned for Year 10 students interested in attending our College for Year 11 and 12. These students will be on-site at the College participating in a variety of activities designed to familiarise them with available courses and the College learning environment.

To accommodate the large number of Year 10 students on-site and maintain safety standards, Year 11 and 12 students will have a Study Day. On this day, students will not have their regular classes and will have work to complete at home.

For any queries regarding this arrangement, please feel free to contact us at:

newstead.college@decyp.tas.gov.au

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Yours sincerely,

Dianne Freeman

Principal

REMINDER - School Satisfaction Survey

The 2023 School Satisfaction Survey is open!

Every year the Department of Education conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school improvement planning and decision-making.

If you have not had the opportunity to complete the survey about Newstead College yet, it is open until Friday 22 September 2023 and should take about 5 minutes of your time.

Each family should nominate one person to fill in this survey for their child(ren).

Take the online survey by clicking this Link. or pasting it in your browser: https://ncv.microsoft.com/dAVl27PsLj

The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential.

All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department of Education staff.

Please contact Newstead College on 6332 3232 if you require any assistance.

Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.

University as a Post College Pathway Online Session

Hello Newstead College parents, carers and extended families,

My name is Gemma and I coordinate the Newstead College UniHub.  I work with many students at Newstead College who are considering or curious about university as a pathway.  I also work with all students to raise awareness of why they might choose to go to “uni”.

I would like to invite you to an online information session, which is hosted by UTAS, about University as a Post-College Pathway, to be held on Thursday 10 August, 5.30 pm – 6.30 pm.  This is a relaxed session designed to give you information to support your conversations with your young person.

More information is below and you can register by clicking on this link:  uniHUB Parent Information Night (office.com)

I look forward to seeing you there (or not … if you prefer to keep your camera off).

Please don’t hesitate to email me if you have any questions at anytime about university or if you would like to come in for a chat with your son or daughter.

Best wishes,

Gemma

Stop Work Action Friday 10th March

Dear Families,

The latest advice we have is that the Australian Education Union (AEU) has directed its members to participate in a stop work action on Friday 10 March 2023.

As a result of the number of staff participating in this action, a decision has been made to temporarily close all Tasmanian Government Schools for educational instruction from 1.00 pm on Friday 10 March 2023.

This means that on Friday schools will open as normal in the morning and students can arrive at school as they usually do on this day. However, families will need to make arrangements to pick their child up at 1.00 pm or for their child to leave the school safely at 1.00 pm.

We have been advised that buses will run as per their usual timetable in the morning and afternoon. If your child relies on bus transport in the afternoon you will need to make other arrangements for their travel home at 1.00 pm.

We understand this will be an inconvenience for some families; it is regrettable that school closure action is necessary, however, we must be able to ensure adequate safety and supervision of students.  If you have concerns regarding these arrangements, please contact our office as soon as possible.

If needed, we will communicate any changes to these arrangements.

For further details, and to keep up to date, visit our Alerts page: https://www.decyp.tas.gov.au/about-us/alerts/
